Professor of the Humanities, Full Professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice, recipient of multiple honorary doctorates. His research focuses on philosophy and cognitive linguistics; general linguistics – particularly logical and cognitive theories of language; and applied linguistics – in particular, the applications of object-oriented description theory, framing and script theories, and electronic databases  of  specialised  lexicons for computer-assisted translation programs. Manager and  executor of numerous international and national research grants. Editor-in-chief of the international linguistic journal Neophilologica. Rector of the University of Silesia during 2008–2012 and 2012–2016. Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools (CRASP) in Poland (CRASP) from 2012 to 2016, and Honorary Chairman of CRASP from 2016 to 2020. Board member of the European University Association from 2015 to 2019. Member of the Council of the National Congress of Science. Vice-Chairman of the General Council of Science and Higher Education. Member of the Council of the National Agency for Academic Exchange. Chairman of Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Center in Paris. Expert for the French Haut Conseil de l’Évaluation de la Recherche et de l’Enseignement Supérieur and the Agence Nationale de la Recherche. Member of the Committee on Ethics in Science at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). Member of the European University Association Nominations Committee.
